Mosher’s Jewelers
Port Huron, MI
RETIREMENT & GOING OUT OF BUSINESS EVENT
After a history dating back to 1898, the fourth-generation owners, brother and sister Bill and Emily, wanted to retire and decided to close their jewelry store and conclude doing business. Maintaining their reputation in the community was important to them, so choosing the right company to help them execute a successful retirement event was really important. The Gordon Company was selected for exactly that reason, and the results of their efforts yielded enormous success.
“This was our last hurrah, and I wanted to get as much out of it as we could. Our sale was way over the top of what we expected, and the turnout for our opening party was terrific, despite 8 inches of snow that day!” –Bill Mosher
The Core Objectives:
- Sell the vast majority of inventory held by the family at maximum value
- Provide significant jewelry deals to their client base and the community at large
- Prepare a unique marketing and promotional plan that would take advantage of their 120+ years of history in the region
Unique Marketing Challenge:
- Tabletop and giftware accounted for one-third of the 3,000 square foot store. It all had to go – and it did – along with the Christmas ornaments, too.
- As part of the advertising campaign, a mobile billboard truck was used, something that the Port Huron area had never seen, this made a great impact in town, accounting for up to 20% of all the people who came into the store to buy during some sale weeks.
“Our Gordon Company consultant was spectacular, a real pro who organized everything for the store and media. He was unfazed by any surprises or glitches, and he really helped us SELL, SELL, SELL!” –Emily Mosher Wallace
Results of the Sale Event:
- Overall sales during the nine-week event yielded revenue 5.04 times greater than the same holiday period last year
- Sales projected by The Gordon Company for the event period were $850,000. Actual sales totaled over $1 million (18% over projection).
- Gross margin on the client’s goods exceeded projected figures by nearly 20%
“I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of additional product The Gordon Company sent in. It was a real boost to have additional pieces that were outside our normal price points.”
“I can’t thank The Gordon Company enough for the effort they made to help me and for the success we achieved when we needed it most.” –Bill Mosher
